    to Avoid Employee Lawsuits

Approved for 1.50 SHRM PDC's, HRCI credits pending

Mark Whitney will be presenting a series of strategies and tips for employers to avoid situations that often result in employee lawsuits.  Mark will cull these tips and strategies from his 27 years of “20-20 hindsight” gained from litigating, strategizing, investigating, and trying cases in the employment law realm.  This is a great opportunity to learn from the mistakes of other employers!

    Topics will include:

    • Tips to avoid ending up in court
    • Avoid creating situations that will interest plaintiffs’ lawyers
    • Managing situations to increase the chance you will prevail if litigation is necessary
    • Understanding the practical realities of litigation
    • What causes employees to call a plaintiffs’ lawyer?
    • Who are jurors, how do they think, and what do they think of employers?
    • Strategies to create better documents
    • When to call a lawyer for help
    • Mastering compliance with legal duties to turn the tables in difficult situations
    • And tips on hiring, performance management, internal complaint handling, investigations, and termination

    Our Speaker: Mark Whitney

Mark Whitney -- the founder of Whitney Law Group, LLC, a law firm focusing on employment law and civil litigation.  WLG is an innovative type of law firm that leverages technology to enable its lawyers and paraprofessionals to work together virtually.  WLG’s flexible environment provides its staff the ability to work where they want, when they want, without being bothered by office politics, “face time,” billing requirements, and commuting.  This environment results in a happier and dedicated team whose sole focus is on exceptional quality work product and exceeding clients’ expectations.

Mark has focused on employment law and a wide variety of complex commercial litigation for the past 27 years.  He spent the vast majority of his practice representing employers and insurance companies. While WLG still represents employers, the firm also represents executives and individual plaintiffs.  WLG assists individuals who may have been subjected to an adverse employment action and prosecutes claims based on unlawful discrimination and other employment-related claims.  WLG counsels executives on a variety of workplace matters, and also provides individuals with an affordable, fixed-price approach to restrictive covenant matters.  This unique approach is designed to give individuals a fighting chance to challenge overbroad or unfair post-employment non-compete agreements and other restrictions.
