The Connecticut SHRM State Council invites you to join us on April 14th from 1pm - 2pm EST (10am - 11am PST) for a special online legal update by David Golder, Principal, and Jennifer Schancupp, Of Counsel, with Jackson Lewis.

This program has been approved for 1 HRCI General Credit and 1 SHRM Professional Development Credit.

    Synopsis:

In June 2015, the United States Department of Labor unveiled proposed changes to the rules governing payment of overtime to non-exempt employees. Under the proposed rule, it is estimated that nearly 5 million more people would be entitled to overtime compensation. The proposed rule would more than double the current salary threshold – last updated in 2004-- to qualify for the Fair Labor Standards Act’s “white collar” exemption. The proposed rule would also index future updates to the salary threshold to the rate of inflation. On March 14, 2016, the DOL sent the final rule to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, marking the final step before the rule becomes official. Join us to discuss the proposed rule, as well as government interpretations of existing laws affecting workforce compensation. In addition to the proposed rule, we will also focus on the increased scrutiny of worker misclassification and independent contractor status.
