    Director – Charla

    2013 SHRM Conferences

Please encourage local chapters to share the SHRM Conference information with their members. Please see the information below regarding the conferences and see Charla or Silvia if you are interested in attending any of these conferences. Now that the State Council is in a position where we can financially support education and leadership development for our State Council members, we would like to do that

    SHRM Annual Conference

This conference is June 16-19 in Chicago, IL. It is important that we have representation from the State Council at the Regional Council meeting which takes place at this Conference. Deb Tuttle is signed up for it and Walt Prior is also planning to go. Silvia is unable to attend and Charla is not able to attend the full conference. The State Council has budgeted for the conference.

    SHRM Leadership Conference

This conference will be in November. It is important for the State Council and local chapters to have a good presence at this event. SHRM pays for the cost of the Director, Director Elect, and Membership Chair to attend the conference. The State Council is planning to send 1 or 2 additional people to the conference. 1 person has expressed interest. If you are interested in attending, please let Charla know.

    State Council Leadership Conference

After further discussion, it was determined that this year we will not be partnering with Maine and Vermont for a Tri-State Conference. More lead time is needed to plan a Tri-State event. The State Council will hold a Leadership Conference again this year in September or October. If you are interested in being on the committee, please see Charla. We will need to come up with a theme. Last year was Best Practices and the year before was Diversity.

    Strategic HR Conference

Bud joined us for our meeting. The first Strategic conference was a success despite Hurricane Sandy. He thanked the NH State Council as early supporters of the conference. He is extending 3 free registrations to the State Council. The State Council will also be able to share in the $10,000 grant along with the other 5 states endorsing the conference. Last year, we received $3,250 for promoting the conference.

The conference will take place at the Mount Washington Hotel October 27-29. The rate for State Council members, SHRM chapter leaders, and returning attendees is $725. Overnight accommodations at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel are $184/night.

On Sunday, which is the opening day, the leaders of the 6 State Councils will meet informally. Susan Post will facilitate the discussion. The conference is a great place to build your network. Some great speakers are lined up for the conference including Aaron Dignan, acclaimed author of Game Frame: Using Games as a Strategy for Success, and Stuart Crabb, Director of Learning for Facebook. Please visit http://www.strategichrne.com for more information. The link is on the State Council website. Please promote at chapter meetings.

In addition to the 3 free registrations from Bud, the State Council is planning to send a few members of the State Council to the conference and pay for the registration fee only. 2 people have expressed interest. If you are interested in attending, please let Charla know.

CT State Council Partnership - Webinars

We voted at the last meeting to partner with the CT State Council on webinars. The first webinar is Friday, March 29 and approximately 10 people from NH have signed up. The webinar is $20 and is a live webinar (not available via archives). The State Council would receive a portion of the webinar fee for each NH attendee. Most of the webinars are approved for HRCI credits.

    State Council Bylaws

We discussed increasing the size of the State Council which would require a change to the Bylaws. The current size is limited to 18 members. Increasing the size to a maximum of 25 was proposed which would allow flexibility to grow. We do not need to add new members right away. Additional members would provide extra volunteers to help with a variety of projects and initiatives.

Charla will revise the bylaws and send them to the State Council for review. Prior to finalizing, they will be sent to Susan Post for SHRM review and approval.

    Succession Planning

Many of the members expressed interest in returning for additional 2 year terms. Others are on off-years with one year remaining in their current terms. Charla will follow up with Claire Dunleavy and Jim Reidy regarding their interest with regard to their positions on the State Council. Jim Goss, Laurie Glaude, and Therese Gesel-Towne have people in mind to move into the Military Liaison, Workforce Readiness, and College Relations positions. Charla encouraged them to bring those interested in joining the State Council to the May meeting.
